The CCNA Routing & Switching Advanced Lab Kit routers are:

  • 1 Cisco 2901 router running version 15.7 IOS
  • 2 Cisco 2811 routers running version 15.1 IOS

The Cisco 2901 router has 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 1 USB port, console and AUX ports, 4 EHWIC/VWIC/WIC/VIC slots with various configurations, 1 ISM internal service module slot, and 512 megabytes DRAM with 128 megabytes of flash RAM. These routers have lots of other features too.

The Cisco 28111 router has 2 Fast Ethernet ports, 1 USB port, console and AUX ports, 4 HWIC/VWIC/WIC/VIC slots with various configurations, 1 NM/NME enhanced network module slot, and 256 megabytes DRAM with 128 megabytes of flash RAM. These routers provide you with lots of flexibility and expandability as you grow your career in Cisco networking.

Why limit yourself with a lab kit that uses 1841 routers? These are nice routers and they do run the 15.1 IOS, but as you grow your career, they are very limited in their ability to expand.  For one thing, the 1841 router only has two WIC slots and no network module slots. and as voice is becoming more and more a requirement to know, these routers do not support voice configurations or voice add on equipment. This is why ALL of our Lab Kits use 2800, 3800, and 2900 routers. We do not want you to waste your hard earned money.

The CCNA Routing & Switching Advanced Lab Kit switches are:

  • 1 Cisco 3750v2 Layer 2/3 Switch running 15.0 IOS
  • 2 Cisco 2960 LanLite Layer 2 Switches running 15.0 IOS

A Cisco 3750V2 IOS 15.0 Layer 2/Layer 3 Fast Ethernet stackable switches with Open Shortest path First (OSPF) routing support, advanced quality of service (QoS), rate limiting, access control lists (ACLs), and basic static and Routing Information Protocol (RIP) and OSPF routing functions, advanced hardware-based IP unicast and IP multicast routing as well as policy-based routing (PBR), IPv6 routing and IPv6 ACL support. Having a stackable switch is needed for those seeking their CCNP R&S certification after completing the CCNA certification.

Two Cisco 2960-24-S, TC-S, or TT-S LanLite switches supporting voice, video, data, and highly secure access, and delivering scalable management are included with this Lab Kit. Their features are, Enhanced security including Cisco TrustSec for providing authentication, access control, and security policy administration among others, and runs the LanLite version IOS 15.0.

Basic Wireless security is now part of the CCNA exam and other aspects of wireless technologies which is why are are now including a Cisco Aironet 1252 wireless access point.  This unit supports WPA2 and other security features you will need to learn.

Lots of accessories are also included. A set of four HWIC-1DSU-T1 serial cards and four WIC-1T serial cards. This allows you to gain knowledge on both types of serial interfaces. With the serial cards you can configure serial connections like T1 and frame-relay. (Frame Relay is no longer on the exam however, its still good to learn it; it will be replaced by MPLS on the exam). With more than double the Ethernet cables over the Basic and Standard Lab Kits and other additional cables, you can create many different typologies to learn from.

To configure the routers and switches, you need a computer with a DB9 serial port to use with the console cable.  However, most of today’s computers do not have this port.  You can solve this problem by purchasing a USB to serial adapter like the one we offer below.  Please note that when resetting a password on some Cisco devices, you need to press CTRL-BREAK while the unit is first powered on.  Many of the “cheap” USB to serial adapters do not pass this code, ours does!
